- Dart Commences Drilling Ops at China Daijing Proj.

Thursday, September 08, 2011
Dart Energy Ltd.

Dart Energy has commenced drilling activities at the Dajing project in Xinjiang Province, China, with the spudding of the first two exploration wells (DJD-02E and DJD-10E). This is part of an initial exploration program which will see a total of up to 14 exploration wells drilled prior to year end, and assuming no program delays, Dart would expect first core drilling results to be available in the first quarter of 2012.

This follows approval in August of the 2011 exploration program and budget by the Dajing Joint Management Committee (JMC). The JMC is comprised of representatives of both Dart and its partner at Dajing, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).

In addition to the spudding of the first wells, the following other activities have been completed at the Dajing project:
  • 4 drilling rigs have been mobilized to site
  • 3 on-site desorption units and 2 permeability testing units have been mobilized to site
  • 3 work camps established on-site
  • Site and road construction for 2 other exploration wells has been completed (DJD-O1E; DJD-O4E), with those wells expected to be spud within the next week

Nick Davies, Dart Executive Chairman, said, "We are now operationally underway at Dajing, which is a major milestone for Dart. Dajing has the potential to be a project of substantial scale within the Dart global portfolio, and our attention is completely focussed on executing the exploration drilling campaign diligently, quickly and safely. Dart Energy looks forward to working collaboratively with our partner, CNPC, to unlock the potential of this block."

Wood Group Lands Engineering Gig at BP's Quad 204 Proj.

- Wood Group Lands Engineering Gig at BP's Quad 204 Proj.

Wednesday, September 07, 2011
John Wood Group plc

Wood Group Kenny has been appointed by BP to provide engineering design and project management services for the subsea, umbilical, riser and flowline (SURF) infrastructure for BP's Quad 204 redevelopment project West of Shetland. Wood Group Kenny is responsible for the design of $1.2 billion worth of subsea, pipeline and riser infrastructure for the project. The dedicated engineering team is already 50 strong and will expand to 75 in the near future.

Mike Ogden, Wood Group Kenny's project manager for Quad 204 said, "This project presents significant technical challenges integrating new infrastructure within an existing brownfield development. Specific issues include proving the remaining or extended design life of existing systems, challenging metocean conditions and the inclusion of 21 new risers, 15 new flowlines, a range of structures, a re-designed umbilical distribution and control system and 25 new wells into a restricted area already containing 52 wells. WGK are responsible for engineering the entire SURF system from the trees to the connections within the new FPSO and supporting BP through the delivery, testing, installation and commissioning of these systems."

Andrew Train, BP's Project Director, Offshore Activities said, "The recent sanction of the Quad 204 project represents a very significant investment for BP and its Partners in the North Sea. While the industry at large has been aware of the replacement FPSO, the scale and complexity of redevelopment associated with the subsea system has gone relatively unnoticed. In many ways it is likely that redevelopment of the subsea system will be larger than the original development scheme. To manage a project of this scale and complexity and attract the best talent in the industry we have co-located a growing BP and Wood Group Kenny team in a project office in the center of Aberdeen. This office will be a hub of activity allowing detailed design work to be progressed by Wood Group Kenny and facilitate interaction with key suppliers and contractors."

Entek Updates Activities in Niobrara Shale Oil Proj.

- Entek Updates Activities in Niobrara Shale Oil Proj.

Thursday, September 01, 2011
Entek Energy Ltd.

Entek provided an update on the Niobrara Shale Oil Project Appraisal Program in the Green River Basin.

Battle Mountain 14-10L – The Frontier (secondary objective) has been successfully fracture stimulated. Limited testing has been performed before completion and testing operations start on the lowest of the Niobrara Benches in the well. Test results suggest the discovery of an oil prone sweet-spot in the Frontier Formation which is part of the Mowry Shale Resource Play. The play has been a secondary target across the Company's acreage since it tested hydrocarbons at an initial rate of 1.2 MMCFD and 10 BOPD in the Focus Ranch 12-1 well and since has shown significant oil and gas shows in each well where penetrated across the acreage.

Test results suggest that the 14 ft perforated zone in the Battle Mountain 14-10 well will be capable of around 20 BOPD and over 100 MCFD. It is most likely that the production from the Frontier will be comingled with production from the Niobrara once planned completion and testing operations in the well are complete. In the future the Frontier, like the Niobrara, is likely to become a candidate for horizontal drilling. The Company will provide an update as the appraisal program continues on the potential of the Frontier and Mowry Shale Resource Play across its acreage position.

The completion program for the Niobrara (primary objective), which includes fracture stimulation and testing, will be initiated this week with fracture stimulation planned around September 15.

Slater Dome (SD) Federal 24-9DL – The well has successfully reached its total depth of 8,300 ft after penetrating both the Niobrara and Frontier Formations. The well had significant oil and gas shows while drilling and was prepared for logging, with good hole condition reported. While pulling out of hole to run wireline logs a drill string connection mechanically failed. Operations are continuing to remove the drill string from the hole prior to logging.

C&C Cattle 18-8 – Location preparation is complete. It is anticipated that the rig will be mobilized from the 24-9 location to the 18-8 location over the next week. An additional rig is on standby to mobilize to the 18-8 location if operations on the 24-9 well take longer than expected.

NES Buys FairfieldNodal Cable-Free Systems for Apache's Cook Inlet Proj.

- NES Buys FairfieldNodal Cable-Free Systems for Apache's Cook Inlet Proj.

Friday, August 26, 2011
FairfieldNodal

FairfieldNodal recently completed a significant sale of its true cable-free nodal recording systems to NES, LLC, on behalf of Apache Corporation. The $30 million transaction, which includes ZLand and Z700 marine nodes, represents several industry firsts: the first use of Z700 marine nodes in the United States and the first major use of Z700 and ZLand together in a complementary operation.

NES will use these systems for Apache's extensive 3D land, marine and transition-zone seismic acquisition project in Cook Inlet, Alaska, where unpredictable ice and ground conditions as well as strict governmental requirements present some of the most difficult environmental challenges in North America. They expect the project to continue for up to three years.

"We're very excited about Apache's decision," said Gary Bartlett, FairfieldNodal's regional sales manager for North America. "We recently performed a rigorous 10-day test survey for them in the same area, using our ZLand and Z700 nodes in combination. To have Apache specify our nodes for such a difficult and important project shows how confident they are that our cable-free systems are up to the task."

Because all FairfieldNodal nodes are entirely self-contained, they are easier and faster to deploy and retrieve. In the Apache test survey, they performed flawlessly in the same onshore and shallow-water regions NES will tackle in their upcoming long-term project for Apache.

American Petro-Hunter Starts Drill Site Ops at N. Oklahoma Proj.

- American Petro-Hunter Starts Drill Site Ops at N. Oklahoma Proj.

Wednesday, August 17, 2011
American Petro-Hunter Inc.

American Petro-Hunter announced that drill site operations have commenced in preparation for the next horizontal oil well at the Company's North Oklahoma Mississippi Project development.

Site arrangements are underway including permitting and requisite documentation in advance of the spud of the newly designated NOW-2H well. The directional drilling contractor has been secured and the Company expects a spud date shortly.

The well is a direct offset to the NOM-1H well, which began production in July and will involve a similar lateral drilling operation into the recently discovered Mississippi reservoir. The Company has purchased full working interest participation in up to 11 additional horizontal wells within the play with the NOW-2H becoming the 2nd well implemented under the planned development program.

The leases in the horizontal play are being developed on 80 acre parcels, however the well spacing will be evaluated after each well is put into production for a period of 30-45 days prior to engineering any additional infill wells. This prudently engineered plan will ensure the maintenance of reservoir integrity over the life of the proposed 24 month drilling schedule. The program is envisioned to involve the drilling of approximately one horizontal Mississippi formation well every 30 to 60 days.

Given the dramatically increased levels of activity in the area, rig availability has become a key scheduling issue. As a result, the Company and partners have accelerated the spud date of the NOW-2H and have further determined that the previously announced vertical NOS-2-22 required a shift to October based on current rig logistics which ultimately provides greater overall benefits allowing for improved operational efficiency across both wells.

Treaty Buys Equipment for Belize Drilling Proj.

- Treaty Buys Equipment for Belize Drilling Proj.

Thursday, June 23, 2011
Treaty Energy Corp.

Treaty announced the purchase of several pieces of machinery that will be sent to Belize in early July.

Andrew V. Reid, Chairman and CEO of Treaty Energy Corporation, stated, "The major piece of equipment that we have purchased is a much larger drilling rig that is capable of drilling to depths of 6500 feet. We will post pictures of this new rig along with its specifications to the Treaty Energy website in a few days."

Mr. Reid stated, "The reason for this purchase was two fold: first, the Schramm 450 Drilling Rig originally purchased to go to Belize will need more work than our time line permits. That rig will be used in Texas when refurbishment is completed; and second, current studies by Treaty's group of geologists, well locators, and satellite surveyors suggest the possibility that deeper pay zones could exist and this rig will be capable of exploring those deeper pay zones at a later time, after the more shallow wells are drilled and producing."

Mr. Reid went on to say, "We have acquired equipment for well pad construction and road construction to the well sites. This equipment consists of: a New Holland B95 Backhoe; and a 2006 D4G Caterpillar Bulldozer. The final purchase is a crew truck to replace the rental vehicle that has been used over the past months. This vehicle is a Chevrolet Duramax Diesel Crew Cab 4WD Pick Up."

Treaty indicated that all of the above equipment will be shipped by sea to Belize out of Mobile Alabama with a planned departure date of July 10, 2011. The shipment will go directly to Belize with a scheduled travel time of five days.

In conclusion Mr. Reid stated, "Because of the rapid pace of events in Belize, our stakeholders can expect frequent updates on this project as all such updates are now becoming extremely important."

Statoil: Gudrun Proj. On Schedule

- Statoil: Gudrun Proj. On Schedule

Thursday, June 23, 2011
Statoil

The steel jacket for the Gudrun field operated by Statoil in the Norwegian North Sea was named on June 22 at Kværner Verdal in mid-Norway.

The champagne bottle splashed "holy" water from the Ol spring over bright yellow steel when it was broken during the traditional naming ceremony at the yard.

Performing this deed was Jørgen Suul, a Kværner Verdal employee who had proposed the name Idun for the structure.

"Today's ceremony marks an important milestone on the way to starting production in 2014," said Anders Opedal, senior vice president for projects in Statoil.

Discovered in 1974, Gudrun has had to wait for 40 years before being converted from find to producing field.

"We've take a long time to understand this reservoir, which is complex and demanding," explained Jan Einar Malmin, Statoil's venture manager for the field.

With high pressure and temperature, the formation still hides secrets. Its name can actually mean "hidden knowledge" in Old Norse.

The plan for development and operation (PDO) estimates recoverable reserves at 132 million barrels of oil equivalent – but this figure is by no means set in stone.

Systematic work will be needed to reach it, said Malmin. "The gap between the highest and lowest forecast is unusually wide in Gudrun's case."

New technology, greater knowledge of the area and re-use of existing offshore infrastructure have finally made it possible for Statoil and partner GDF Suez to develop the field.

"This is an important milestone in the project for meeting the target of a production start-up on 2014," said Carl Otto Hauge, head of non-operated licenses at GDF Suez.

"Gudrun is a very important project for us, and underscores our presence on as well as our long-term commitment to and investment on the Norwegian continental shelf."

To maximize Gudrun's value, the project team is pursuing two main strategies – tackling sub-surface uncertainty and securing future production, and reducing development costs.

"Cost efficiency and secure development are goals for all our whole portfolio," said Opedal. "With our strong focus on costs and time, good planning and ownership of these plans are crucial."

And Gudrun is on schedule, he noted. "We'd planned to name the jacket at the end of June. That's now been done, and the structure will soon be towed out to the field."
