Serimax, a 100% subsidiary of Vallourec, has been awarded the welding contract for the Gas Sul North Capixaba (GSNC) project by Subsea 7 in Brazil.

Serimax will provide welding services on 151km of 18" sour service pipeline, which will run parallel to the Brazilian coast and links the Camarupim Field gas pipeline to the Parque des Baleias complex.

The project management will be run from Serimax's Brazilian facility, with welder performance qualification taking place in Houston and offshore installation onboard the vessel Polaris scheduled to start in November and completed toward the end of February 2012.

Mickael Dolou, Serimax's Brazil area manager, said, "Winning this award is a reflection of the commitment we have made to establishing Serimax as the leading welding contractor for the export/shallow water pipeline market in Brasil and South America.

"We have invested in infrastructure and manpower to offer clients extensive local contact both pre and post project, and hope that our quality of service and strong commitment for continuous improvement will open up further opportunities to work with Subsea 7."

EnerMech, has been awarded a number of contracts "worth a substantial sum" to provide pipeline pre-commissioning services by Subsea 7.

Two awards are for Dutch sector projects where the workscope includes pre-trench flooding, cleaning and gauge pigging, high speed flushing, hydrostatic strength testing and post tie-in final gauging and hydrostatic leak testing in pipeline systems.

In another Dutch sector award, Subsea 7 has contracted EnerMech to perform pre-commissioning operations comprising pig loading, pig trials, pipeline flooding, cleaning and gauging, pipeline strength testing, Xmas tree isolation barrier testing, flexible riser annulus vacuum testing, pipeline system leak 'tightness' testing and pipeline bulk dewatering.

EnerMech recently invested £20 million in establishing a new Process, Pipeline and Umbilical Services division (PPU) which is targeting the global pre-commissioning market.

EnerMech PPU director, Les Graves, said, "These awards mark EnerMech's first major European pipeline project success and our pro-active approach and strategy of providing excellent personnel and equipment is already paying off.

"Securing these awards demonstrates that the market is receptive to a service provider which is committed to safe, cost effective and innovative solutions. I am confident this will be the first of many awards."

The Energy Products Division of Parker Hannifin Corporation has been awarded a contract from Subsea 7 for one of the world's largest mooring projects. Parker will supply the steel wire tether system for the deep water Guara and Lula NE submerged buoys in Brazil. Subsea 7 has been contracted by Petrobras to provide engineering, procurement, installation and pre-commissioning of four decoupled riser systems in this field.

Parker will provide Subsea 7 with 34 sheathed tethering lines each measuring more than 6,000 feet (over 1850 meters) in length. These steel tethers will keep the submerged buoys securely moored to the seabed of the Guara and Lula NE fields. The mooring lines will be engineered and constructed at the Tønsberg, Norway manufacturing location.

EPD's General Manager, Craig Anderson, stated, "We are proud to have been selected to provide our mooring products for the Guara and Lula NE development, and we look forward to partnering with the Subsea 7 project team on this world-class project."

Subsea 7 announced the award of the Kumang Cluster Project by Petronas Carigali to Subsea 7 Malaysia Sdn Bhd. This award further cements Subsea 7's position in Asia Pacific and Middle East Region.

The project involves the transportation and installation of subsea structures, 5km of umbilical cable, pipeline jumpers and electrical flying leads, including the pre-commissioning of an existing 24" 5km pipeline and new umbilical in the Kumang Field.

The workscope comprises project management and engineering associated with the installation of the subsea equipment. A combined team from Subsea 7 and PETRONAS Carigali will deliver the project enabling greater development and understanding of deepwater technologies and allow most operations to be completed utilizing diverless intervention techniques. The work involves a high level of Malaysian content and will be managed by Subsea 7's office in Kuala Lumpur.

The project will be completed in two phases utilizing Rockwater 2 in 2011.

Subsea 7 has contracted BMT Scientific Marine Services (BMT) to provide riser monitoring systems for two Hybrid Riser Towers (HRT) and one Single Hybrid Riser (SHR) for the CLOV Development Project offshore Angola operated by Total E&P Angola.

These systems will monitor the integrity of the risers by measuring the buoyancy uplift and bending fatigue, as well as each riser's motions and set-down due to lateral excursions. Each system will include the BMT Subsea Strain Sensor Assembly; subsea data acquisition, motion and depth modules; and a rack-mounted display with BMT's WinMon software for riser monitoring systems. Data transmission will be via a hard-wired link to the FPSO. The system will be designed for 21 years subsea service.

BMT brings valuable experience to this project having supplied a Free Standing Hybrid Riser Tower tension, motion and position monitoring system for Petrobras's P-52 platform offshore Brazil, a Hybrid Riser Tower Monitoring System for BP's Greater Plutonio Block 18 and a comprehensive integrity monitoring system for the Cascade & Chinook Free Standing Hybrid Risers (FSHRs) and Disconnectable Turret Buoy. The company is also currently in the process of providing a Riser Tower Monitoring System to two single leg offset risers offshore West Africa for SAIPEM and an Integrity Monitoring System for four risers in the Usan Field Development Project for TOTAL E&P Nigeria Limited.

Subsea 7 S.A. announced Friday the award of the Fossekall-Dompap Marine Installation and Pipelay Contract with an approximate value of $180 million from Statoil, close to the Norne FPSO in the Norwegian Sea.

The contract scope includes transport and installation of 2 of 4 slots Integrated Template Structures (ITS) at the Fossekall Field, and 1 of 4 slots ITS at the Dompap Field, fabrication and installation of the 25.7km long 12/14 ID insulated production pipeline with Direct Electrical Heating (DEH) piggyback cable from Norne FPSO to Dompap and an in-line Tee at Fossekall. The scope also includes installation of manifolds, flexible flowlines and jumpers, flexible riser, dynamic and static umbilicals, electrical cable, DEH riser, DEH feeder cable system and tie-in and pre-commissioning of the full system.

The scope of work comprises of project management and engineering as well as design, fabrication and procurement of GRP Covers, Riser Base, PLET, in-line Tee and linepipe coating.

Engineering will commence immediately, with all offshore operations to be performed during 2012.

Subsea 7, a global leader in seabed-to-surface engineering, construction and services, on Tuesday announced that it has completed the design and build of the first commercial AIV, a technology which has the potential to revolutionize Life-of-Field projects.

Subsea 7 has an ambitious plan to develop a series of Autonomous Inspection Vehicles (AIV), initially capable of general visual inspection, through to fully capable work-class sized intervention vehicles. A combined project team comprising hardware developers and operational personnel from Subsea 7 and Seebyte, a Scottish based software developer for the autonomous robotics market, has been working together to deliver the first vehicle.

The design and build of the vehicle is complete and successful progress through in-water trialling and commissioning phase is underway. Following completion of extensive in-water testing and capability development, the first commercial AIV is expected to be available in late 2011.

Through the development process, many technical challenges have been overcome, the shape of the vehicle has changed from the original design concept due to the significant work done using the latest Computational Fluid Dynamics Modelling to optimize the vehicle's shape with regard to stability and maneuverability, while conserving the onboard power resources.

The vehicle is fully autonomous and can operate for a 24-hour period on a single charge of its lithium-ion batteries, which are housed in pressure vessels within the hull. These batteries have been specifically designed for the vehicle and provide a more cost-effective solution to pressure tolerant batteries, with a lower capital cost and much improved cycle lives. /p>

The sensor package has been developed to cover the requirements of general visual inspection; it comprises the latest sonar technology coupled with high quality video cameras and low power LED lighting.

A significant software integration and development project has been running in parallel with the hardware development and this too has used the most advanced techniques to manage, debug and control the development.

Neil Milne, Subsea 7's Vice President - Life-of-Field Services, commented: "We are delighted with the success of the commercialization program to date for what represents a significant technological advance in the area of subsea remote inspection and intervention. With the arrival of the AIV, subsea structures such as manifolds, wellheads and risers will be able to be inspected by this tetherless technology, significantly increasing flexibility and efficiencies throughout the life-of-field cycle. Following completion of extensive trials and further development over the coming months, we look forward to bringing the first commercial AIV into operations towards the end of 2011."

Subsea 7 announced the award of an engineering and installation contract by E.ON Ruhrgas UK E&P for the Huntington Development in the North Sea.

The Subsea 7 workscope comprises the installation of 12km of the 8-inch Gas Export pipeline, installation of infield flexible flowlines, main static umbilical and associated risers as well as installation of subsea structures followed by tie-ins, pre-commissioning and system testing. Engineering work has commenced in the Aberdeen office with installation using several of Subsea 7's fleet occurring through to 2012.

The Huntington Development is located 140 nautical miles North East of Aberdeen in Block 22/14 in the Central North Sea with water depths of 90m. E.ON Ruhrgas UK E&P is the operator and has a 25 % interest.
