First Subsea has been awarded a contract by Chevron U.S.A. Inc. to supply the mooring connectors for the Jack/St. Malo semisubmersible hub production facility in the Jack/St. Malo fields located approximately 280 miles south of New Orleans, Louisiana, in water depths of 2,133 m (7,042 feet) in the Gulf of Mexico.

The semisubmersible, floating production unit (FPU) will be moored by 16 Ballgrab, ball and taper, mooring connectors attached to polyester mooring lines in a 4x4 arrangement. The Ballgrab Series III male connectors will be the largest produced so far with an un-corroded 2,599mT (25,491kN) MBL, and the first to comply with the new ABS Mooring Guide 2009.

The Ballgrab connector comprises a male connector and female receptacle. The female receptacle will be installed subsea with the mooring system's suction piles, mounted on docking porches. When the FPU is in position, the male connector, attached to the mooring line, is lowered from the surface into the female receptacle to complete the mooring installation. The process is then repeated until all 16 mooring lines are connected.

GE O&G will supply three customized aeroderivative gas turbine-generator modules to provide reliable electric power for a new Chevron floating production unit that will produce oil and gas from the Jack/St. Malo fields in the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 280 miles south of New Orleans and at a water depth of approximately 7,000 feet.

GE will provide three LM2500+G4 gas turbine generator modules, each mounted on a three-point support base plate, designed with marine corrosion-resistant materials to overcome footprint restrictions and withstand pitch, roll and acceleration forces anticipated for a floating production unit operating in deep waters.

The LM2500+G4 gas turbines will be manufactured by GE Aero Energy in Evendale, Ohio, while the generator package assembly and testing will take place at GE Oil & Gas' facilities in Massa, Italy. Shipment of the equipment is scheduled to start in December of 2011, with commercial startup planned by early 2013.

Chevron's initial development of the Jack and St. Malo fields will be comprised of three subsea centers tied back to a hub production facility with an initial capacity of 170,000 barrels of oil and 42.5 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.

Wood Group has been granted a multi-million dollar, 42-month contract by Chevron U.S.A. Inc. for the planning, managing and field execution of commissioning for the Jack/St. Malo semi-submersible hub production facility. Work will be performed by DSI, Wood Group PSN's commissioning services business.

The Jack/St. Malo platform will be installed in 7,000 feet of water in the Walker Ridge section of the US Gulf of Mexico and will have an initial design capacity of 170,000 barrels per day of oil.

DSI's commissioning will be performed at a South Texas fabrication yard where the topsides will be fabricated and integrated with the hull, and offshore, during final installation and start-up

DSI has commissioned four other deepwater Gulf of Mexico semi-submersibles, including two that had designs similar to that of Jack & St. Malo. DSI's work for Chevron has included commissioning of the Tahiti spar in the Gulf of Mexico and the South Nemba Enhanced Recovery Project offshore Angola.

"Project commissioning proves the integrity and reliability of all operating and safety systems on a production facility prior to hydrocarbon start-up. Commissioning must be delivered to the highest quality in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico today," stated Trey Lambert, president of DSI. "We look forward to providing these critical services for Jack/St. Malo and to extending our relationship with Chevron."

Wood Group has supported the Jack & St. Malo project throughout its development. Mustang is conducting detailed design for the Jack/St. Malo topsides facilities and the integrated control and safety systems, and J P Kenny is performing detailed design for the deepwater oil export pipeline.

KBR has been awarded a contract by Chevron U.S.A. Inc. to execute detailed design engineering for the Jack/St. Malo floating production unit (FPU) located in the Lower Tertiary trend in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The Jack and St. Malo fields are located within 25 miles (40 km) of one another approximately 280 miles (450 km) south of New Orleans, Louisiana, in water depths of 7,000 feet (2,100 m).

KBR will provide design and engineering support through fabrication for the deep draft semi-submersible (semi) including: hull, deck box, accommodations, appurtenances, equipment foundations; mooring system design; and anchor suction piles. The semi will be designed to minimize vessel motion and allow acceptable fatigue lives of the moorings, risers and umbilicals.

KBR subsidiaries Granherne and GVA consultants will collaborate on the execution of this phase of the project. The award of this contract follows the successful completion of conceptual engineering and design, pre-FEED and FEED by KBR for the Jack & St. Malo FPU project.

McDermott announced that one of its subsidiary companies was awarded fabrication and installation work from Chevron U.S.A. to support the development of the Jack/St. Malo fields in the Gulf of Mexico. The project will be included in McDermott's first quarter 2011 bookings.

Work will begin in 2013, with the start of fabrication of 21 rigid jumpers at McDermott's Morgan City fabrication facility in Louisiana. Offshore installation will begin in early 2014 using McDermott's subsea construction vessel North Ocean 102 ("NO102") and the DB16.

"We are pleased to be able to support Chevron's deepwater developments in the Gulf of Mexico and believe that our combined solution of NO102's high payload and top tension capacity coupled with our ability to fabricate the high spec jumpers in house provides a unique benefit for this project's delivery," said Stephen M. Johnson, President and Chief Executive Officer of McDermott.

The NO102 and its crew will transport and install more than 60 miles of umbilicals, including three control and two power umbilicals. The jumpers and remaining subsea controls system components, including more than 80 flying leads, will be installed by the DB16.

Located in up to 7,150 feet of water in the US Gulf of Mexico Walker Ridge lease blocks, the Jack South and St. Malo North and South subsea drill centers tie back to the Jack and St. Malo floating production platform.

The 427-foot NO102 enables McDermott to offer versatile installation capabilities in the flexible pipe and product market worldwide. The vessel has two cranes and a moon pool to support deepwater subsea construction work and has a fast transit speed. It is currently equipped with a 7,000-ton capacity cable and umbilical and flexible pipe carousel with horizontal lay system. Plans are underway to upgrade the vessel's capability by installing a high-capacity flexible-lay system for ultra deepwater installation work. The upgrade will include installation of a new 250-ton crane.

North Ocean 105 (NO105), the sister ship to NO102, is currently under construction at a Spanish shipyard. The 427-foot vessel will be outfitted with a high capacity rigid-reeled pipe-lay system with top-tier payload capacity. The system will also accommodate installation of flexible products including submarine cables and umbilicals and flexible pipelines. The anticipated delivery date of the NO105 is 2012.
