- Diamond Offshore Orders 3rd Ultra-Deepwater Drillship

Thursday, May 19, 2011
Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc.

Diamond Offshore announced that a subsidiary, Diamond Offshore Drilling Limited, has exercised its option to build a third ultra-deepwater drillship with Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. with delivery scheduled for the second quarter of 2014. Total cost, including commissioning, spares and project management, is estimated to be approximately $610 million and is anticipated to be paid out of cash flow and available funds.

Like its previously announced sister drillships, the new unit will be dynamically-positioned, have a seven ram blow-out preventer, dual activity capability, five mud pumps and a maximum hook-load capacity of 1,250 tons. The unit will be designed for operations in up to 12,000 feet of water.

Diamond Offshore President and Chief Executive Officer Larry Dickerson said, "The addition of this third new drillship is part of our ongoing effort to provide multiple ultra-deepwater options to our customers, allowing state of the art drilling with Diamond Offshore's high standards of systems integrity, safety and operational excellence. Including our acquisitions of the Ocean Courage and Ocean Valor, we have over the past two years increased our ultra-deepwater fleet by five units. Coupled with the Ocean Confidence, Ocean Endeavor and Ocean Monarch, Diamond Offshore will be able to provide eight rigs for the growing 10,000 foot and deeper market."

Daewoo to Build Vantage Ultra-Deepwater Drillship

Daewoo to Build Vantage Ultra-Deepwater Drillship

Tuesday, May 10, 2011
Vantage Drilling Company

Vantage Drilling Company has entered into an agreement with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co., Ltd ("DSME") to
construct an ultra-deepwater drillship further expanding the Company's ultra-deepwater drilling fleet. The Company plans to name
the drillship Tungsten Explorer.

The agreement is a fixed price turnkey contract for the construction of the drillship with a scheduled delivery date of May 31, 2013. The
cost of the Tungsten Explorer, including all project management, commissioning, spares, pre-delivery crew costs and inventory is
estimated to be approximately $580 to $590 million. The Company has also obtained a fixed price option for the purchase of an additional drillship.

Tungsten Explorer will be constructed at DSME's shipyard in Okpo, Korea, and will be capable of operating in water depths up to 12,000 feet, with a total vertical drilling depth capacity of 40,000 feet. The hull design has a variable deck load of 20,000 tons and measures 781 feet long by 137 feet wide. The drillship will be equipped with the most technically advanced features in the drilling industry including DP3 dynamic positioning system, 1250 short ton hook load drilling package, a 9000 hp drawworks, as well as offline pipe handling and trip saver system. The drillship will have accommodations for 200 personnel.

Paul Bragg, the Company's Chairman and CEO, commented, "The addition of Tungsten Explorer to our fleet is an exciting development. While this will be our second Company-owned unit to be constructed at DSME, it will be our fifth drillship project undertaken there, inclusive of our three ongoing construction oversight projects. Our strong relationship with the DSME management has allowed us to achieve exceptional project terms -- a) one of the lowest cost construction contracts of this kind, (b) one of the earliest deliveries of the recent order cycle -- just 24 months away, and (c) one of the highest specification ultra-deepwater units yet to be built.

"We are also very pleased that payment terms provide for an initial down payment of just slightly over $100 million, with the balance of
the contract price due at delivery in May 2013. We plan to debt finance the down payment in connection with our planned refinancing
of some of our existing high cost debt.

"The addition of Tungsten Explorer to our fleet will add substantial additional earnings power to Vantage by the second half of 2013."

The Company, a Cayman Islands exempted company, is an offshore drilling contractor, with an owned fleet of four Baker Marine Pacific Class 375 ultra-premium jackup drilling rigs and one ultra-deepwater drillship, the Platinum Explorer. The Company's primary business is to contract drilling units, related equipment and work crews primarily on a dayrate basis to drill oil and natural gas wells. The Company also provides construction supervision services for, and will operate and manage, drilling units owned by others. Through its fleet of seven owned and managed drilling units, the Company is a provider of offshore contract drilling services globally to major, nationaland large independent oil and natural gas companies.

Seadrill Adds Ultra-Deepwater Dual Derrick Drillship to Fleet

Seadrill Adds Ultra-Deepwater Dual Derrick Drillship to Fleet

Monday, April 11, 2011
Seadrill Ltd.

Seadrill has exercised an option to build a new ultra-deepwater dual derrick drillship at the Samsung yard in South Korea. Total project price is estimated at US $600 million (includes project management, drilling and handling tools, spares, capitalized interest and operations preparations). The delivery is scheduled for the third quarter 2013.

The new unit is similar to the two drillships Seadrill ordered from Samsung in November 2010 with enhanced water depth capacity, technical capabilities as well as increased accommodation capacity compared to previous generation drillships.

The dynamic positioning drillship, will be capable of operations in water depths up to 12,000 feet, and will have a hook load capability of 1,250 tons. This rig is also outfitted with seven ram configuration of the BOP (Blow Out Preventer) stack, especially targeting operations in challenging areas such as the Gulf of Mexico, Brazil and West Africa. Furthermore, the drillship will be equipped with a 165 ton capacity heave compensated crane enhancing the unit's operational flexibility and facilitating lifts on the seabed in water depths up to 3,000 meters.

Seadrill has simultaneously secured an extension of the maturity date for a further option agreement to build its seventh drillship to be delivered from Samsung since 2008. Seadrill has currently no specific plan to exercise this option, but might consider it if the strong underlying trend currently seen in the deep water market continues.

Alf C Thorkildsen, Chief Executive Officer of Seadrill Management AS, said, "The decision to add another ultra-deepwater newbuild to our modern fleet is based on the recent improvement in market outlook for ultra-deepwater units, with significantly more tender activities. The new drillship has an attractive delivery window, a favorable construction price and payment schedule and an equipment specification list that will meet our customers' future needs. We have had excellent experience with the Samsung yard and this design and are confident that the unit will be delivered on time and budget once again."

"The strengthening of Seadrill's equity basis through the recently announced bond conversion creates financial flexibility for growing the company further without raising additional equity. The current long-term dayrates give a healthy return on the investment, with further upside if the market strengthens as a result of the strong trend in the oil price.

The project will based on current dayrates and anticipated financing increase Seadrill's dividend capacity going forward. The ordering of the new drillship further confirms Seadrill's commitment to remain a growth company, with the target of reaching US $3 billion in EBITDA in the coming years."
