GE O&G has signed contracts totaling more than $15 million to provide subsea systems to Centrica Energy Upstream of Aberdeen for use in projects in the North Sea and the Irish Sea.

GE reported at Offshore Europe 2011 that it will supply four shallow water vertical tree (SVXT) subsea tree systems for fields in the U.K. Southern North Sea gas basin and the East Irish Sea, and one MVXT system for use in the U.K. Central North Sea.

"The SVXT systems incorporate GE's latest design for shallow water applications and offer new, innovative features to meet Centrica Energy's specific requirements," said Matt Corbin, regional leader—United Kingdom and continental Europe for GE Oil & Gas. "The SVXT tree system is smaller and lighter than any traditional shallow water systems on the market and also offers the lowest installed cost."

The SVXT subsea tree merges horizontal and vertical tree technology, reducing weight by 20 percent, decreasing height and also delivering essential functionality in a pre-engineered, pre-configured modular style. Low-cost installation is achieved through a design that enables deployment using standard offshore jack-up drilling rigs without the need for major modifications.

The MVXT Tree System will be deployed in the Central North Sea and is a standard structured M-Series Vertical Subsea Tree, Nominal 18-3/4" - 5" x 2" 10K system.

"Centrica is at the forefront of developing marginal fields by using new and innovative approaches. The right technology is key to ensuring the economic viability of these fields so we're delighted to be working with GE on its new subsea tree technology," said Greg McKenna, commercial director for Centrica Energy Upstream.

Songa Offshore announced that its 100% owned subsidiary, Songa Rig AS, has received a Letter Of Award (LOA) from Statoil for the use of Songa Trym for a 3 years firm plus 2x1 year option Drilling Contract on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The LOA is conditional to mutual agreement of contract terms between the parties which is anticipated to be concluded within 30 days. The firm part of the contract has an aggregated revenue value of approximately USD 462 million inclusive a rig upgrade element and an associated yard stay prior to contract commencement.

The yard stay and contract with Statoil will commence in direct continuation of the rig's current commitment and subsequent demobilization from Statoil Troll license mid-2012.

Songa Offshore will undertake full rig management and operations responsibility of the Songa Trym from current Odfjell Drilling Management at time of transition between contracts.

ENI has chosen technology from AGR Drilling Services for multi-well projects in the Barents Sea and the Norwegian Sea.

The Cutting Transportation System (CTSTM) from AGR will be used on 24 wells drilled by the Norwegian arm of Italian energy company Eni.

The system will mainly be deployed on the Goliat field, the first oil field to be developed in the Barents Sea. Goliat lies some 85km
(51miles) northwest of Hammerfest in the far north of Norway.

CTSTM (example pictured) enables operators to take cuttings up to 2km (1.24miles) away from the wellhead. This means that the well area is kept debris free, helping ensure the operation proceeds as smoothly as possible – particularly when it comes to procedures such as laying cables and tying in umbilicals.

The CTSTM also makes it possible for operators to deposit cuttings away from environmentally sensitive areas.

Johan Møller Warmedal, Executive Vice President of AGR Drilling Services, said, "We are delighted to be working with Eni Norge for the first time and to add such an important new client to our roster of Norwegian Continental Shelf customers. The Barents is an area where we envisage that operators will benefit not only from the capabilities of CTSTM but also our other technologies such as Riserless Mud Recovery."

The use of Riserless Mud Recovery (RMR®) and CTSTM will soon surpass the 500-well milestone. RMR® enables top-hole sections to be drilled more safely, more quickly yet with less environmental impact.

With Eni Norge, 22 wells will be drilled on Goliat with the new semi-sub rig Scarabeo 8. The remaining two wells will be on the Marulk field in the Norwegian Sea and drilled by the Scarabeo 5.

The contract is for four years, with a one-year optional extension.

GE O&G's drilling & production business has been selected to supply high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) equipment to Bien Dong Petroleum Operating Company, a subsidiary of the state-run Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), for the development of gas fields, offshore Vietnam.

Under a contract of approximately $30 million, GE will provide 16 sets of HPHT surface wellheads and subsea production trees, along with associated equipment and services, for deployment in phase one of the development campaign for blocks 05.2 and 05.3 of the Hai Thach and Moc Tinh gas fields. This marks the largest single contract for surface wellheads and subsea trees in Vietnam by any equipment manufacturer.

Sam Aquillano, vice president—drilling & production, GE Oil & Gas said, "We are honored to supply high-tech equipment to Bien Dong Petroleum Operating Company to support Vietnam's offshore drilling and production operations. This is the largest single contract for surface wellhead and subsea trees in Vietnam, and GE hopes to build on this contract award by continuing to support Vietnam's burgeoning oil and gas industry with high-tech, high-performance equipment and services from across our integrated oil and gas portfolio."

The high-tech equipment, with the capability to operate at 350°F and 15,000 psi, is a first for Vietnam and reinforces GE's position as a leading supplier of surface HPHT and ultra HPHT wellheads and subsea trees in Asia. The contract follows GE's recent agreement with Total Malaysia to supply ultra HPHT equipment (450° F and 15,000 psi).

GE Oil & Gas has a strong local presence in Vietnam for turbomachinery and drilling and production equipment and services support. Last year, GE signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with PetroVietnam, paving the way for the future supply of advanced oil and gas equipment, services and spare parts to optimize the total life-cycle value of key oil and gas projects in Vietnam.

This contract further affirms GE's position as a significant wellhead and subsea production tree supplier for surface HPHT and ultra HPHT equipment in Asia and follows a recent award with Total Malaysia for ultra HPHT equipment (450°F and 15,000 psi). GE Oil & Gas has a local presence in Hanoi for turbomachinery equipment and services and in Ho Chi Minh City for VetcoGray subsea equipment and services. GE Oil & Gas also provides advanced technology equipment and services to other high-profile projects in Vietnam, such as the BP Pipeline, Dung Quat Refinery, Phu My Refinery, Camau Fertilizer and Vietsovpetro. Last year, GE Oil & Gas successfully signed an MOU with PetroVietnam outlining the principles and basis of long-term collaboration regarding the supply of advanced oil and gas equipment, services and spare parts to optimize the total life-cycle value of key oil and gas projects.

GL Noble Denton has been appointed by the Irish Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) to assist in developing Ireland's new Petroleum Safety Framework (PSF).

Once complete, the Petroleum Safety Framework will create a system that allows the CER to assess and monitor the safety of Ireland's petroleum industry. The half-million Euro project will outline how safety will be regulated for each stage of the life-cycle of Ireland's petroleum assets, from design, construction and operation to maintenance, modification and decommissioning of the full range of assets for which the regulations are deemed to apply.

During the development of the Framework, GL Noble Denton's consultants will form an extension of the CER team, working with the Irish public, oil and gas operators, statutory bodies and other interested parties to research and develop a world-class set of regulations.

GL Noble Denton will work with the CER in developing a range of discussion, consultation and decision papers for the new PSF over 2011 and 2012, using experienced technical advisers based on-site at the Commission's headquarters in Dublin and at GL Noble Denton offices. The GL Noble Denton project team will work with the CER to undertake a period of extensive consultation with key stakeholders in the lead up to finalizing the Petroleum Safety Framework.

GL Noble Denton has developed a track record in assisting authorities and operators in developing, influencing and interpreting regulatory policies, with particular expertise in the UK, Norway, USA, Australia and Singapore. The experience gained in working with safety regulations in these countries will help form the CER's approach to developing Ireland's Petroleum Safety Framework.

Halliburton has been awarded a contract by Statoil to provide integrated drilling and well services offshore Norway with options up to eight years in duration with extended scope and activity.

Traditionally, Statoil has procured drilling and well services on a discrete basis. This is the first time Statoil has awarded an integrated well services contract in Norway, which includes project management by Halliburton, with the intent to increase efficiency and reduce development costs.

Under the first phase of the contract, Halliburton will provide directional drilling and logging-while-drilling services, surface data logging, drill bits, hole enlargement and coring services, cementing and pumping services, drilling and completion fluids, completion services – including multilateral junctions, SmartWell® completion systems and VersaFlex® expandable liner hangers – and project management.

The contract is part of Statoil's Fast Track Field Development initiative that has been launched to minimize the time from discovery to production and reduce development costs. In the Fast Track project, the service company and operator work more closely together as an integrated team. This results in better operational efficiency on the rigs, which, in turn, results in lower overall project costs for the operator. This allows the operator to develop marginal oil discoveries that would have been deemed uneconomical using traditional contracting models. For this contract, Halliburton's onshore operations team will integrate with Statoil's team in Stavanger, Norway.
