RWE Dea UK's field developments Breagh and Clipper South are both progressing on schedule. On a visit to Heerema's fabrication yard in Zwijndrecht (Netherlands) Wednesday, RWE Dea CEO Thomas Rappuhn emphasized the high significance of both projects: "The proven reserves play an important role to significantly increase RWE Dea's gas production in the North Sea."

"Breagh for example is one of the largest natural gas discoveries in the Southern North Sea and our target is to bring field developments on stream quickly," added RWE Dea UK Managing Director René Pawel.

Gross investments are GBP 430 million (Breagh, Phase 1) and GBP 240 million (Clipper South). RWE Dea holds 70% interest in the Breagh gas field as operator (Sterling Resources UK 30%). With a stake of 50% in Clipper South, RWE Dea is operator with Fairfield Energy and Bayerngas each holding a 25% stake.

Pawel said, "We remain on course to achieve production from the Breagh field less than three years after we acquired operatorship of the Breagh license and expect first gas in the second half of 2012 and from Clipper South in the first half of 2012."

Both platforms are being constructed by the Heerema Fabrication Group. The Breagh platform consists of a jacket approximately 85 meters tall with a total weight of some 4,000 tonnes and topside of approximately 1,400 tonnes. The topsides have been moved out of the shed and are ready for sail-away from Heerema's fabrication yard mid September. The jacket is on schedule for load out early September. The Clipper South platform with topsides weighing 1,900 tonnes has accommodation for 40 persons and sailed away for offshore on Thursday 25th and was successfully installed on Saturday, August 27 with standalone overnight manning on the day of installation – testimony to the very high level of completion on departure from the yard. The Clipper South platform is in a water depth of approximately 23 meters, and a 12" pipeline will connect to the ConocoPhilips operated LOGGS complex for onwards transportation of gas to the Theddlethorpe terminal in the UK.

The Breagh field is located in UKCS blocks 42/12a and 42/13a of the southern North Sea in 62 meters water depth, approximately 100 kilometers east of Teesside. Around 100 kilometers of 20" pipeline have been successfully installed offshore. The platform will be installed by Heerema Marine Contractors.

The field is being developed in two phases. Phase 1 entails gas to be exported via the 20" pipeline from the Breagh Alpha platform to Coatham Sands, Redcar on the UK mainland, and a 10 kilometers onshore pipeline for processing at the Teesside Gas Processing Plant (TGPP) at Seal Sands. The TGPP site is owned by Teesside Gas & Liquids Processing, and after processing at the TGPP, the gas will enter the UK National Transmission System. Phase 2, planned to receive project sanction in late 2011, is expected to include additional wells in the east of the field likely to be drilled from a further Breagh platform tied back to Alpha.

RWE Dea Gets Govt Nod for Breagh Field Development

- RWE Dea Gets Govt Nod for Breagh Field Development

Monday, July 25, 2011
RWE Dea AG

RWE Dea UK announced that the field development plan for its operated Breagh gas field has received the unconditional approval of the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) of the UK Government.

The FDP approval from DECC was formalized today by Charles Hendry MP, Minister of State for Energy at RWE Dea UK's London office, in a ceremony attended by senior management of RWE Dea and its Breagh license partner, Sterling Resources (UK).

"The FDP approval is a hugely significant achievement for our Breagh gas field development. It is an essential element for the realization of our strategic target to boost RWE Dea's annual gas and oil production to more than 70 million barrel of oil equivalents by 2016," said Ralf to Baben, Chief Operating Officer of RWE Dea AG.

René Pawel, RWE Dea UK's Managing Director, commented, "I am delighted with today's announcement by the UK Government. It means that RWE Dea UK remains on course to achieve production from the Breagh field less than three years after we acquired operatorship of the Breagh license."

The FDP approval marks yet another step in a busy summer for the Breagh development. Around 100 kilometers of 20" pipeline has been successfully installed offshore and the platform is due for installation in early September. The platform is being constructed by Heerema Vlissingen in the Netherlands and consists of a jacket approximately 85 meters tall with a total weight of some 4,000 tons and topsides of approximately 1,400 tons. The platform will be installed by Heerema Marine Contractors.

Energy Minister Charles Hendry said, "This is welcome news, Breagh is one of the largest natural gas discoveries in the Southern North Sea in recent years, and developments like this play a vital role in ensuring we have secure energy supplies throughout the UK. It is also encouraging to see the success of initiatives such as the Promote license, developed through PILOT, which originally allowed Sterling Resources to gain access to this acreage and bring the development forward under the partnership and operatorship of RWE Dea."

The Breagh field is located in UKCS blocks 42/12a and 42/13a of the southern North Sea in 62 meters water depth, approximately 100 kilometers east of Teesside. Phase 2, expected to receive FDP approval in early 2012, is expected to include additional wells in the east of the field drilled from a Breagh Bravo platform tied back to Alpha.

RWE Dea holds 70% interest in the Breagh gas field as operator (Sterling Resources UK 30%). The gas field is a conventional carboniferous reservoir and the expected reserves will make a significant contribution to the growth of RWE Dea's gas production. Further upside potential is expected in the surrounding exploration blocks.

RWE Dea Scoops Up Block Offshore Trinidad and Tobago

Tuesday, April 26, 2011
RWE Dea AG

As a result of the 2010 shallow water bid round in Trinidad and Tobago, RWE Dea has been awarded one of the country’s offshore blocks. The respective Production Sharing Contract has now been signed with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago in Port of Spain. For RWE Dea, this marks the entry into the country with its established natural gas infrastructure in a prolific oil and gas prone region.

The NCMA2 block is situated approximately 50 kilometers off the northern coast of Trinidad. The block covers 1,019 km² and is located in water depths of 100 to 200 meters. It is on trend with the Hibiscus and Chaconia gas fields. Operational work is planned to commence in July with the acquisition of a 3D seismic survey covering the whole concession. RWE Dea's share in block NCMA2 is 24% with Niko Resources as operator holding 56% and the state company Petrotrin the remaining 20%.

"We are delighted to have been awarded our first block in Trinidad and Tobago," said Thomas Rappuhn, Chief Executive Officer of RWE Dea AG. "The signed PSC strengthens our strategic position and secures further highly prospective exploration acreage for the company." In its annual press conference in early April, the RWE Dea had already announced to increase its annual gas and oil production to 70 million barrel of oil equivalent by 2016. "To allow us to sustain the anticipated higher production volumes of the coming years for the long term, and to increase them, we step into new areas like Trinidad and Tobago and will expand our country portfolio even further," Rappuhn continued. RWE Dea is today active in 14 countries through licenses and branch offices. The company holds stakes in more than 170 licenses and is the operator in more than 40% of them.

The engagement in Trindad and Tobago also ties in with RWE's gas strategy to strengthen the group’s business in one of the most important LNG supply countries along the Atlantic margin.

RWE Dea Picks Up Licenses on Norwegian Shelf

RWE Dea Picks Up Licenses on Norwegian Shelf

Wednesday, April 20, 2011
RWE Dea AG

RWE Dea Norge has been awarded two licenses in the recent licensing round by the Norwegian Government. This further strengthens the company's long-term commitment on the Norwegian Shelf.

RWE Dea was awarded a 30% share in the license PL609 in the Barents Sea and a 15% share in the license PL596 in the Norwegian Sea. "License PL609 is located due East of the Skrugard discovery and enlarges RWE Dea's portfolio in this very promising area," explained Hugo Sandal, Managing Director of RWE Dea. "PL596 is a license on the Atlantic Margin and positions RWE Dea for this play."

These two new licenses add up to RWE Dea Norge's already promising and solid license portfolio in Norway. In January, RWE Dea Norge has already been awarded three licenses on the Norwegian Shelf, of which one is in the North Sea and two are in the Norwegian Sea. Norway plays an important in role in RWE Dea's strategic target to boost its annual gas and oil production to more than 70 million barrel of oil equivalents by 2016.
