Penspen has been awarded a new five-year contract to provide project management services (PMS) to Al-Khafji Joint Operations (KJO), a joint venture between Aramco Gulf Operations and Kuwait Gulf Oil Company, in its development of the Khafji and Hout Fields on the Kuwait / Saudi Arabia border.

The contract follows on from the previous PMS contract awarded to Penspen by KJO in 2005. The scope of works includes all aspects of managing the engineering, detailed design, procurement and construction of KJO's oil and gas projects in Khafji. Penspen's core project management team will be based on site with a number of satellite teams based in Contractors' offices around the world.

The project is expected to employ approximately 200 people for five years and will include major onshore and offshore Field Development from FEED through Tendering, Detailed Design and Construction. Specific services provided will include:
  • Review of Design Basis and Scoping Papers(DBSP) for all KJO Projects
  • Supervise FEED Preparation by other Engineering Contractors and issue tender for EPC Contracts
  • Commercial and Technical Review of EPC Contractors Bids
  • Technical Review and Approval of EPC Contractors Design by Satellite Team
  • Follow up Material Procurement and Supervise Construction and Commissioning
  • Technical Support to KJO and Satellite Teams from Core Team
  • Contract Administration and Project Controls for all KJO Projects

In February this year, Penspen won The British Business Forum Award of Merit at The British Business Forum Excellence Awards in Kuwait for its previous exemplary work on the contract.

Penspen's Director of PMS, Chris Williams, said, "We are delighted to have been re-awarded this contract. The Penspen Group announced the appointment of Colin Cross as Head of Offshore. Previously Subsea and Pipelines Manager at KBR / Granherne and g3baxi partnership ltd., Colin will be in charge of Penspen's Offshore London division, with key responsibility for international business development for Subsea and Pipelines engineering projects.

Ernie Lamza, Penspen's Director of Offshore, said, "Penspen is delighted to welcome Colin on board to head up its offshore London team. I have no doubt he will be an excellent addition to Group and help us build on the 400% growth we have already seen in recent years."

Colin Cross, speaking about his appointment, said, "Penspen has a long track record of delivering successful subsea and pipelines projects and I thoroughly look forward to developing and expanding the group, building on such excellent recent achievements as receiving the Queen's Award for Enterprise and the award of Nexen's Golden Eagle FEED Project."

The Penspen Group has announced the appointment of Mike Simm as its new Director of Oil and Gas Field Engineering. Mike joins Penspen from Foster Wheeler where he worked in a number of Senior Management Roles including Divisional Director, Engineering Operations, Divisional Director, Process Engineering, and Programme Manager of their Strategic Alignment Initiative.

As Director of Oil and Gas Field Engineering, Mike will work across a broad range of technical disciplines to develop Penspen's field development expertise across the full project lifecycle into one of the company's principal business streams. Penspen has regularly provided engineering and project management services into Field Development work and the majority of its Operations and Maintenance activities are in oil and gas producing fields. Mike's role will be to strategically address building a comprehensive engineering and project management service for these clients.

Penspen's Chief Executive David Stanley, said, "I am delighted to welcome Mike to the Penspen Group and very much look forward to working with him to build on Penspen's field development expertise.
