Woodside Reports Strong Performance for 1H11

- Woodside Reports Strong Performance for 1H11

Wednesday, August 17, 2011
Woodside Petroleum Ltd.

Woodside reported a first-half profit after tax of US $828 million, underpinned by continued strong performance of the North West Shelf and higher revenues. The underlying net profit after tax of US $842 million was up 3.6%.

Woodside Chief Executive Officer Peter Coleman said, "Our focus on operational excellence continues to deliver outstanding results and today's financial result highlights the ongoing strength of the company's base business.

"Woodside's extensive production facilities are performing well and delivering strong revenues. With around US $2.9 billion in cash and undrawn facilities, together with continued strong cash flows from the underlying business, we enter the second half of 2011 well positioned to fund our growth plans.

"We will continue a disciplined approach to investment to maximise, deliver and capture value from our existing business, our LNG growth options and select opportunities."

Key Points

Reported net profit after tax was $828 million ($901 million 1H 2010), down 8.1%, largely due to last year's first-half being positively impacted by a gain on the sale of Woodside's Otway assets and a lower income tax expense.
  • Underlying net profit after tax was $842 million, up 3.6% ($813 million 1H 2010) and represents our second highest first-half profit.
  • Strong revenue of $2,253 million up 7.2% ($2,102 million 1H 2010). The recent period of higher commodity prices continues to positively impact profit performance.
  • First-half production of 31.9 MMboe (36.7 MMboe 1H 2010), down 13.1% compared to 1H 2010 primarily due to planned maintenance and project outages (-4.3%), cyclone interruptions (-3.6%), average field decline (-3.4%) and divestments (Otway, GOM shelf; -3.4%), partially offset by increased reliability (+1.6%). This was a solid result and keeps us on track for the FY 2011 target of 62 to 64 MMboe.
  • Operating cash flow of $1,391 million, up 38.1% ($1,007 million 1H 2010).
  • Robust balance sheet to fund growth with $2.9 billion in cash and undrawn debt facilities.
  • Capital expenditure# of $1.5 billion, down 6%, as Pluto nears completion.
  • Interim dividend of US55 cents per share (cps) fully franked (US50 cps 1H 2010).
  • LNG Growth Projects:
    • Pluto LNG Foundation Project – production and cash flow commencing in 2012.
    • Pluto Expansion – Carnarvon Basin drilling and discussions with other resource gas owners continue.
    • Browse – front-end engineering and design (FEED) underway and land access secured.
    • Sunrise – actively re-engaging with government stakeholders.

DIVIDEND PAYMENT

A fully-franked interim dividend of US55 cps (2010: US50 cps) was declared. The record date for determining entitlements to the interim dividend is 26 August 2011 with the ex-dividend date being 22 August 2011. The interim dividend will be paid on 30 September 2011. The dividend reinvestment plan (DRP) will remain activated and will be fully underwritten.

OPERATIONAL OVERVIEW

North West Shelf

The first half of 2011 has seen continued strong performance from the North West Shelf (NWS) facilities. Woodside delivered 132 cargoes of LNG on behalf of the NWS Venture, compared to 127 in the first half of 2010. The increase is primarily attributed to increased production from LNG Train 5 following the completion of remedial work on the main heat exchangers during planned maintenance in May 2010.

Australia Oil

Enfield: Production of 2.1 MMbbls (3.3 MMbbls 1H 2010) benefited from additional volumes from the Horst and Main West infill wells, which were completed during 2H 2010. However production was disrupted at the start of the year as a result of high levels of cyclone activity.

Vincent: Production of 1.5 MMbbls (2.3 MMbbls 1H 2010) was reduced at the start of the year due to cyclone interruption and a scheduled maintenance shutdown of the floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) to reinstate gas compression. The rate of production has increased since gas compression was restored. Two Phase III production wells were spudded during 1H 2011and are expected to contribute to production in 2H 2011.

Stybarrow: Cyclone activity also impacted production but this was more than offset by high production rates from the Stybarrow North production well, which came online at the end of 2010. Production for the half was 1.9 MMbbls (1.2 MMbbls 1H 2010).

DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

Pluto LNG Project

During 1H 2011 the project achieved significant commissioning milestones including the introduction of commissioning gas to the onshore plant. This milestone facilitated start up of the gas turbine generators, which provide electrical power to test all equipment in preparation for a safe start up. Offshore, the Pluto A platform was readied for use with the successful completion of the pressurisation of the trunkline, pipelines and flowlines using commissioning gas. During 2H 2011 onshore and offshore commissioning work will continue.

On 17 June 2011, Woodside revised the expected cost and schedule of the Pluto LNG Project following its regular review of the progress of the project. The first LNG cargo is now estimated for March 2012 and the revised estimate now expected to result in a A $900 million cost increase to a total of A $14.9 billion (100% project). This estimate includes arrangements with customers affected by the delay.

Pluto Expansion

Woodside continues to target expansion at the Pluto LNG Park. It is planned to conduct further exploration and appraisal drilling to prove up additional gas volumes in the Carnarvon Basin. Discussions continue with other resource owners regarding development of additional trains at Pluto.

Browse LNG

During the period, Woodside successfully executed an agreement with the Goolarabooloo Jabirr Jabirr Native Title claimant group and the Western Australian Government, which will enable the establishment of the Browse LNG Precinct.

Environmental studies and approvals progress in line with expectations. Work planned for 2H 2011 includes continuing FEED studies and environmental approvals.

Sunrise LNG

Woodside is actively re-engaging with the Australian and Timor-Leste governments to obtain in-principle approval of the development concept for Greater Sunrise gas.

North Rankin Redevelopment Project

The A $5 billion project (approximately A $840 million Woodside share) will recover remaining low pressure reserves from the North Rankin and Perseus fields and is scheduled for completion in 2013. Commissioning continues on the North Rankin B (NRB) jacket in Indonesia and topsides in Korea. The transport barge, for the NRB jacket delivery to the North West Shelf, has arrived in Indonesia with load out scheduled for 3Q 2011. Modifications to the North Rankin A (NRA) platform continue on schedule, including preparations to
install the bridges linking NRA and NRB.

Greater Western Flank Development (GWF)

The GWF area is located to the south-west of the Goodwyn A platform and contains 14 fields estimated to hold approximately 3 Tcf of recoverable gas and 100 MMbbls of condensate (100% project). The first phase of the GWF Development has progressed to FEED studies as a subsea tieback to the Goodwyn A platform.

North West Shelf Oil Redevelopment Project

The A $1.8 billion project (100%) will extend production from the Cossack, Wanaea, Lambert and Hermes fields beyond 2020. First oil from the Okha FPSO is forecast for early 4Q 2011.

Production outlook

Woodside's 2011 production target is 62-64 MMboe. The company expects continued strong operational performance from the NWS facilities. To ensure ongoing reliability, a significant NWS maintenance shutdown is planned for 3Q 2011. In addition, contribution from two infill wells at Vincent and recommencement of oil production from the NWS Oil Redevelopment Project should provide additional volumes to the base business.

Production volumes are expected to increase strongly following first Pluto LNG cargoes, which are now estimated to commence in March 2012.

Delta Ends Strong in 2Q11

- Delta Ends Strong in 2Q11

Thursday, August 04, 2011
Delta Petroleum Corp.

Delta announced its financial and operating results for the second quarter 2011.

Carl Lakey, Delta's CEO and President stated, "We are pleased to provide our shareholders with another solid operating quarter coupled with the accomplishment of some very important strategic steps. We sold our remaining non-core assets, which reduced our leverage and provided sufficient liquidity to continue our deep shale evaluation and development in the Vega Area. While the strategic alternatives process, the 2C well results, and the Netherland Sewell report were all announced subsequent to the end of the quarter, much of the efforts that went into those steps occurred in the second quarter. The 2B and 2C well results and Netherland Sewell's report are very important contributions that support Delta's intrinsic value and aid our strategic alternatives process."

VEGA AREA SHALE EVALUATION UPDATE

As previously announced, the Delta 2C well began producing hydrocarbons on Wednesday, July 20, at a rate of 5.4 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMcf/d), which was choke-restricted with a 7/64 of an inch choke and 8,360 psi of flowing tubing pressure. Gas sales from the well began on Thursday, July 21 from the Niobrara and Frontier formations only. The well is currently producing between 2.5 – 3.5 MMcf/d with 6,100 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The well choke is currently set at 9/64 of an inch. The Mancos shale, Corcoran and Williams Fork formations remain uncompleted.

The Delta 2B well in the Vega Area of the Piceance Basin drilled through a portion of the Mancos formation and reached total depth of 10,700 feet. Below the Williams Fork the well was completed in 1,200 feet of shale in the Corcoran and the upper portion of the Mancos formation. Gas production began on April 24 and sales commenced on April 29. As announced on May 10, the 2B well experienced sustained production of 3.3 MMcf/d from only the Mancos and Corcoran formations. The well is currently producing 0.6 MMcf/d. The information available indicates that the natural fractures in the 2B well may have prematurely closed by the high flow rate (6 MMcf/d) during initial flowback activities, which has subsequently hindered production. The Company is currently evaluating refracturing the well in the Mancos and Corcoran formations to reestablish higher production levels in the well.

The Company is currently drilling the 12B well. The current depth is approximately 8,500 feet with a target depth of 13,000 feet. It is expected that the target depth will reach the Frontier formation. Total depth is expected to be reached during September. Once completed, this well will hold the acreage of the federal Sheep Creek Unit and bring the Company's Vega leasehold up to 95% held by production.

STRATEGIC ALTERNATIVES UPDATE

On July 6, 2011, Delta announced that it had engaged Macquarie Capital (USA) Inc. and Evercore Group, L.L.C. to act as advisors to the Company in conducting a strategic alternatives process aimed at maximizing shareholder value and dealing with the Company's 2012 debt maturities. Through this process, the Board of Directors is evaluating all opportunities available, including a potential sale of the Company. The process is in its early stages and the Company does not expect to make further public comment regarding the process until the Board of Directors has approved a specific transaction or otherwise determines that disclosure of significant developments, if any, is appropriate.

OPERATIONS UPDATE

Current production of the Company approximates 28 million cubic feet equivalent per day (MMcfe/d) net.

2011 CAPITAL EXPENDITURES AND PRODUCTION GUIDANCE

Delta will focus its current available capital for the remainder of 2011 on drilling and completing the 12B well and completing the remaining two previously drilled Williams Fork wells. The completions of the remaining two previously drilled wells have been postponed to the fourth quarter of 2011; however, these plans could be altered depending on shale well results, with capital potentially being reallocated to additional shale activity. Developments related to the strategic alternatives process may also affect current capital spending plans.

Production for the third quarter 2011 is expected to be between 2.6 Bcfe and 2.7 Bcfe.

RESULTS FOR THE SECOND QUARTER 2011

For the quarter ended June 30, 2011, the Company reported total production of 3.2 Bcfe. Production from continuing operations was 2.8 Bcfe, remaining flat when comparing second quarter 2011 to the prior year period. Revenue from oil and gas sales was $16.9 million, an increase of 14% when compared to the prior year period of $14.8 million. The average natural gas price received during the quarter ended June 30, 2011 increased to $5.31 per thousand cubic feet (Mcf) compared to $4.92 per Mcf for the prior year period. The average oil price received during the quarter ended June 30, 2011 increased to $86.87 per barrel compared to $58.29 per barrel for the prior year period.

The Company reported a second quarter net loss attributable to Delta common stockholders of ($963,000), or ($0.03) per diluted share, compared to a net loss attributable to Delta common stockholders of ($149.8 million), or ($5.43) per diluted share, in the second quarter of 2010. The decrease in net loss is primarily due to a decrease in dry hole costs and impairments and a decrease in operating expenses, as well as discontinued operations.

Comments from C. Ashley Heppenstall, President and CEO

Lundin Petroleum achieved excellent results in the second quarter of 2011 with increased profitability and cash flow. What is extremely pleasing however, is the continued exploration success. I have always highlighted that the major valuation creation for our company will be achieved through increasing our oil and gas resources, and the best way to do that is through exploration.

Lundin Petroleum produced a net result for the first six months of MUSD 130.3. The strong production coupled with oil prices achieved of well over USD 100 per barrel resulted in operating cash flow of MUSD 390.3 and EBITDA of MUSD 505.3. Despite our significant exploration and development investment program net debt during the first half of the year has reduced from MUSD 410 to below MUSD 120.

The positive exploration news has continued during the second quarter with further discoveries at Skalle in PL438 in the Barents Sea, Earb South in PL505 in the northern Norwegian north Sea and Tarap in Block SB303 offshore East Malaysia. In addition the results of the first Avaldsnes appraisal well were extremely encouraging confirming the extension of the Avaldsnes field to the south east. We have now achieved five discoveries from our first five exploration wells this year following the Tellus and Caterpillar discoveries during the first quarter.

Our business is continuing to grow and I am confident we will continue to increase shareholder value. We are generating strong cash flow and profitability from our existing production which is outperforming, our development projects are proceeding well and our exploration success continues.

North America Delivers Strong Revenue Growth for Halliburton

- North America Delivers Strong Revenue Growth for Halliburton

Monday, July 18, 2011
Halliburton

Halliburton announced today that net income for the second quarter of 2011 was $747 million, or $0.81 per diluted share, excluding employee separation costs of $8 million, after-tax, or $0.01 per diluted share. Reported net income for the second quarter of 2011 was $739 million, or $0.80 per diluted share. This compares to net income for the first quarter of 2011 of $511 million, or $0.56 per diluted share. The first quarter of 2011 results were negatively impacted by $46 million, after-tax, or $0.05 per diluted share, related primarily to reserving certain assets as a result of political sanctions in Libya. Net income for the second quarter of 2010 was $480 million, or $0.53 per diluted share.

Halliburton’s consolidated revenue in the second quarter of 2011 was $5.9 billion, compared to $5.3 billion in the first quarter of 2011. Consolidated operating income was $1.2 billion in the second quarter of 2011, compared to $814 million in the first quarter of 2011. These increases were primarily attributed to improved pricing and equipment utilization in United States land, where nearly all product service lines have benefited from the shift to unconventional oil and liquids-rich basins. Consolidated revenue and operating income were $4.4 billion and $762 million, respectively, in the second quarter of 2010.

“I am extremely pleased with our second quarter results as total revenue set yet another company record. North America continues to deliver very strong growth in revenue and profitability, while international profit recovered modestly. As a whole, our level of operating margin was the highest it has been since 2008,” said Dave Lesar, chairman, president, and chief executive officer.

“North America revenue grew by 16% sequentially compared to United States rig activity growth of 6%, with incremental operating margins of greater than 50% for both divisions. This was driven by the execution of our North America growth strategy in liquids-rich basins, and our customers’ continued adoption of our integrated solutions.

“We have for some time expressed confidence in the strength of the North America cycle, and our results this quarter validate our positive view on the market. Strong crude prices, operators’ improved cash flows combined with their ability to access capital, and the increasingly liquids-rich nature of the United States land market, give us continued confidence in the strength of North America through 2012.

“International revenue grew 8% from the prior quarter, with 18% operating income growth, excluding the impact of Libya and employee separation costs. Strong sequential operating income improvement was driven by seasonal recovery in the North Sea and Russia as well as improved activity in Latin America and Asia. However, the shutdown in Libya, project delays in Iraq, mobilization costs in Sub-Saharan Africa, and the sluggish market in the United Kingdom and Algeria have impacted the pace of recovery for our international results. In Europe, despite the employee separation costs in the second quarter, increasing interest in shale development gives us confidence in business prospects longer term. We are now seeing some evidence that international pricing is stabilizing and we believe that volume increases will result in pricing improvements toward the end of the year.

“Robust growth in global energy demand supports the continuing need to develop new hydrocarbon resources and provides us with strong growth opportunities. We anticipate that the execution of our strategy and our focus on the high growth segments of deepwater, unconventional resources, and mature fields will result in margin expansion in both our North America and international business, and will support continued delivery of strong shareholder returns,” concluded Lesar.

2011 Second Quarter Results

Completion and Production

Completion and Production (C&P) revenue in the second quarter of 2011 was $3.6 billion, an increase of $446 million, or 14%, from the first quarter of 2011. Continued demand for production enhancement services in the United States accounted for the majority of this increase.

C&P operating income in the second quarter of 2011 was $918 million, an increase of $258 million, or 39%, over the first quarter of 2011. Excluding the second quarter impact of employee separation costs in the Eastern Hemisphere and the first quarter impact of the charge for Libya, C&P operating income improved $228 million, or 33%, from the first quarter of 2011. North America C&P operating income increased $213 million compared to the first quarter of 2011, primarily due to higher demand for production enhancement services in the United States land market. Latin America C&P operating income decreased $7 million, as higher costs across South America offset higher activity levels in Mexico and Brazil. Europe/Africa/CIS C&P operating income improved due to seasonal recovery in the North Sea. Middle East/Asia C&P operating income rose as higher activity across all product service lines in Saudi Arabia and Australia offset lower completion tools sales in Malaysia.

Drilling and Evaluation

Drilling and Evaluation (D&E) revenue in the second quarter of 2011 was $2.3 billion, an increase of $207 million, or 10%, from the first quarter of 2011, with all regions experiencing revenue growth.

D&E operating income in the second quarter of 2011 was $324 million, an increase of $94 million, or 41%, from the first quarter of 2011. Excluding the second quarter impact of employee separation costs in the Eastern Hemisphere and the first quarter impact of the charge for Libya, D&E operating income increased $76 million, or 30%, from the first quarter of 2011. North America D&E operating income increased $52 million compared to the first quarter of 2011, with higher United States drilling activity both onshore and in the Gulf of Mexico. Latin America D&E operating income increased $12 million, primarily due to higher activity in Brazil. Europe/Africa/CIS D&E operating income improved due to higher seasonal demand for drilling services in the North Sea and Russia which offset lower activity in Angola. Middle East/Asia D&E operating income was flat, as higher direct sales in China and Kuwait offset contract delays in Iraq.

Corporate and Other

During the second quarter of 2011, Halliburton invested an additional $12 million in strategic projects aimed at improving Halliburton’s operations and creating the opportunity for competitive advantage for the company. These include a lower cost service delivery model in North America and repositioning technology, supply chain, and manufacturing infrastructure to support projected international growth. Halliburton expects to continue funding this effort throughout 2011.

Significant Recent Events and Achievements

Halliburton was awarded a three-year contract by Chevron to provide integrated services for shale natural gas exploration in Poland. Under this contract, Halliburton will provide directional drilling, mud logging, cementing, coiled tubing, slickline, well testing, hydraulic fracturing, and completion equipment and services. Halliburton’s Consulting and Project Management team will support the project. Drilling is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Halliburton invests considerable time, energy, and resources in engineering solutions that set new standards for environmental safety – all while helping our customers do more by using less. The CleanSuite™ services are the latest in a long line of developments designed to reduce the environmental footprint of hydraulic fracturing operations. Recent achievements for CleanSuite™ technologies include the following:
Halliburton and El Paso Corporation announced that an El Paso-operated well in North Louisiana is the first natural gas producing well to be completed using all three Halliburton proprietary CleanSuite™ production enhancement technologies for both hydraulic fracturing and water treatment. More than four million gallons of CleanStim® hydraulic fracturing fluid, comprised of ingredients sourced from the food industry, were utilized to enhance the well and resulted in faster production of natural gas. Nearly 4.8 million gallons of water were treated through Halliburton’s CleanStream® process, which uses UV light instead of additives to control bacteria in water. Another one million gallons of produced water was recycled for use in the well through the CleanWave™ system, significantly reducing the need for freshwater.

Halliburton's CleanWave™ water treatment technology was recognized with the Spotlight on New Technology Award at the 2011 Offshore Technology Conference. The awards program is designed to showcase the latest and most advanced technologies that are leading the industry into the future. Year to date, we have treated over 47 million gallons of fracture flowback water or produced water with this technology.

Deepwater is the most challenging and expensive environment in which our customers operate. Recent technological developments by Halliburton that help improve our customers’ economics by providing more effective reservoir performance information include:
DynaLink® – Halliburton’s proven, two-way wireless acoustic telemetry system – now has the added capability to control downhole test tools from the surface during drillstem testing operations while transmitting real-time bottomhole pressure and temperature data.

This data, along with acoustic actuation of test tools, provides operators the benefit of changing the pre-defined well testing program based on reservoir response while testing. This technology was recently deployed successfully in deepwater wells in Mexico and Brazil.

The 4 Phase Vertical Test Separator is another step change improvement in deepwater well testing. First, the system eliminates the need for traditionally bulky and costly sand-handling equipment and the inherent operational difficulties associated with it. Second, it streamlines rig operations by eliminating costly rig time associated with the removal of produced solids. The Halliburton 4 Phase Vertical Test Separator recently demonstrated noteworthy time and cost savings for an operator in Brazil.

Realm Energy International Corporation has contracted Halliburton’s Consulting and Project Management team to work with Realm Energy to significantly expand the technical evaluation and ranking of the highest-potential shale deposits found in emerging prospective basins globally. Realm Energy and Halliburton’s Consulting and Project Management team began their collaboration in 2009 with an emphasis on European basins. During this initial effort 10 discrete sedimentary basins in four European countries were targeted for evaluation. The collaboration identified key prospect trends, and Realm has now successfully acquired 650,000 gross acres and has filed government applications for 4.4 million acres of contiguous tracts over significant shale resources.

Both Williams Firms Tap Strong Q1 Returns

Both Williams Firms Tap Strong Q1 Returns

Thursday, May 05, 2011
Tulsa World, Okla.
by Rod Walton

Williams Cos. Inc. and Williams Partners LP both exceeded $300 million in profits for 2011's first quarter, the Tulsa natural gas, oil and natural gas liquids firms reported Wednesday.

Higher NGL margins sparked the strong returns for the three months ending March 31. Parent Williams tapped $321 million, or 54 cents per share, in net income while Williams Partners totaled $307 million, or 81 cents per unit, in profit.

"We're off to a good start this year, and we're expecting an even stronger performance for the remainder of 2011 and 2012," Alan Armstrong, president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. "We've increased our earnings guidance 11 percent for both years, as we expect strong NGL and olefin margins in our midstream businesses."

Williams Cos. net income was a dramatic increase over 2010's first quarter, when the company announced a $195 million net loss. Williams Partners' total was down slightly from the $322 million same time last year, but 33 percent higher on a per-unit basis, according to the release.

The traditionally natural gas-rich Tulsa company has upped its stake in oil and NGL plays in the past year due to higher prices and increased demand for ethane for use in petrochemical production. Williams has $4.8 billion in growth capital projects planned through 2012.

"We continue to invest in and bring more value-adding natural gas and NGL infrastructure projects online," Armstrong added. "With abundant supplies in the new shale plays and growing demand from natural gas-fired electrical generation, the need for natural gas infrastructure will continue to grow."

Williams Cos. is focused on infrastructure, exploration and production although a new subsidiary, WPX Energy Inc., will spin off the E&P segment in the near future. Williams Partners handles natural gas and NGL gathering, transport and processing assets.
