Atwood Oceanics announced that one of its subsidiaries has been awarded two contracts by Apache Energy Ltd for work in Australia for the Atwood Eagle and the Atwood Falcon with durations of 18 months and 30 months, respectively. With these contracts, Atwood's total revenue backlog increases from approximately $990 million to $1.55 billion.

The Atwood Eagle is expected to commence its contract in July 2012 in direct continuation of its prior contract. The Atwood Falcon will undergo approximately 90 days of planned maintenance and contract preparation work prior to transiting to Australia to commence operations expected in May 2012. The firm contractual commitments for the Atwood Eagle and the Atwood Falcon are expected to extend to January 2014 and November 2014, respectively.

"We are very pleased to be providing deepwater drilling services to Apache with these two longer-term agreements," commented Rob Saltiel, Atwood President & CEO. "Atwood has been active in Australia for over 35 years, and we look forward to increasing our presence further in this growing and strategic market."

With this contract, the firm contractual commitments for the Atwood Eagle are expected to extend through July 2012. The day rate will be approximately $370,000.

Atwood Oceanics announced that one of its subsidiaries has been awarded a twelve-month contract extension with an affiliate of Coastal Energy Company for the jackup Vicksburg, priced at the current day rate of $90,000 from January 1, 2012 to June 30, 2012, after which the day rate will be $95,000 until Dec 31, 2012. With the extension, the Vicksburg's firm commitment extends through December 31, 2012.

Atwood Oceanics announced the untimely death of its Board member Mr. Robert W. "Bob" Burgess, who passed away this past weekend in Massachusetts at the age of 69. Bob joined Atwood's Board of Directors in 1990 and has served as Chairman of the Audit Committee since 2008. Bob was the former Chief Financial Officer (Senior Vice President) of CIGNA Investment Division, CIGNA Companies, a diversified financial services company with major businesses in insurance, health care, pensions and investments.

Mr. George S. Dotson, Chairman of the Atwood Board of Directors, commented, "for over twenty years, the Board relied on Bob's experience and incisive mind in financial matters. He was a great friend to all on the Board, and we will miss his counsel and presence going forward."

Atwood's President and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Robert J. Saltiel added, "we have lost a valuable member of our Board who made many contributions to Atwood's success throughout his years of dedicated service. On behalf of all Atwood employees, I extend my deepest sympathies to Bob's family and many friends."

Atwood Oceanics announced that on June 9, 2011, one of its subsidiaries had reached an agreement with the PPL Shipyard to delay the required commitment date for the next Pacific Class 400 jack-up drilling unit option until December 31, 2011, concurrent with the commitment date for the last Pacific Class 400 jack-up unit option. At this time, the company has made no determination as to whether any of the two remaining options will be exercised.

The company currently has three Pacific Class 400 jack-up drilling units, the Atwood Mako, Atwood Manta, and Atwood Orca, under construction with PPL under turnkey construction agreements; these units will have a rated water depth of 400 feet, accommodations for 150 personnel and significant offline handling features.

Atwood Oceanics' subsidiaries has been awarded a contract by a subsidiary of Noble Energy for the Atwood Aurora. With contract commencement expected in October 2011, the award has an estimated firm duration of 240 days plus an option well with an estimated duration of approximately 40 days. The day rate for work offshore Cameroon will be approximately $126,000 and for work offshore Equatorial Guinea, the day rate will be approximately $134,000. With the award of this contract, the firm contractual commitments for the Atwood Aurora are expected to extend through May 2012.

Atwood Oceanics, Inc., a Houston-based international offshore drilling contractor, announced that one of its subsidiaries has been awarded a one well contract by BHP Billiton Petroleum PTY LTD, with an estimated duration of 45 days in a water depth of 600 feet.

The day rate for this contract for the first 40 days will be approximately $376,000; thereafter the day rate will increase to approximately $399,000 (both day rates subject to change due to currency exchange provisions in the contract).

With this contract, the firm contractual commitments for the Atwood Eagle will extend through approximately January 2012.

The option must be exercised by August 31, 2011. With the extension, the Vicksburg's firm commitment extends through December 31, 2011.
