Ithaca Selects GE O&G for Stella Development

GE O&G

GE O&G subsea systems and services have been selected by Ithaca Energy (UK) Ltd. for the Stella oil and gas field development project in the Central North Sea, GE reported Tuesday at Offshore Europe 2011.

Under a contract of $17 million, GE will supply an integrated package of "S" Series shallow water vertical tree (SVXT) systems, controls and SG1 wellheads to be installed using a jack-up rig.

Phase 1 for the Stella project will be four trees for the planned development wells with a possible additional tree for a further well in the area.

The SVXT systems are based upon GE Oil & Gas latest design of the shallow water structured product subsea tree system, smaller and lighter than any traditional shallow water tree system on the market. The SVXT system has been developed for ease of installation, minimal ROV dependency, reduction on weather influenced installation operations due to smart tools, higher load carrying capacities and increased pressure envelopes.

"Our ability to meet the engineering challenges of this project regarding temperature, riser analysis clarifications, pressure ratings and gas lift requirements was a key to receiving this contract," said Matt Corbin, regional leader—United Kingdom and continental Europe for GE Oil & Gas. "The agreement also builds on the good working relationship we established with Ithaca in a previous project."

The scope of the GE contract includes S Series SVXTs, SG1 drill-through wellhead systems and a full services support package comprising rental tools and manpower.

The equipment will be engineered and manufactured at GE's facilities in the United Kingdom with the equipment scheduled for shipment in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Statoil Selects Samsung for Valemon Construction

- Statoil Selects Samsung for Valemon Construction

Statoil

Statoil is to choose Samsung Heavy Industries for construction of the topsides for the Valemon platform. The contract is worth an estimated NOK 2.3 billion ($414 million).

The award has taken place in wide-ranging international competition among pre-qualified suppliers.

"We've awarded the assignment to build the Valemon topsides to Samsung Heavy Industries," said Jon Arnt Jacobsen, chief procurement officer in Statoil.

"We have good experience with this supplier which also has a good track record in HSE. All requirements were met and Samsung presented the overall best offer."

The contract covers engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the topsides and living quarters, as well as an option for mating offshore of the topsides with the steel jacket. The Grenland group in Sandefjord, Norway and Technip in Malaysia will perform the engineering work. The Grenland group will also construct the flare boom. The living quarters will be built by Hertel Marine in the Netherlands.

Capacity and cost developments on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) are challenging and it is important for Statoil to have a diversity of suppliers with capacity to deliver on time and with the proper quality.

"This is an interesting project for the supplier industry," said Jacobsen.

"Several suppliers based in Norway will also benefit from this contract award as sub-contractors for Samsung. In addition there will be deliveries under Statoil's other frame agreements, where the Norwegian supplier industry is expected to be competitive and to secure important contracts."

Contracts for the construction of the steel platform jacket have previously been awarded to Heerema Vlissingen B.V. Transport and installation of the jacket and topsides was awarded earlier to Heerema Marine Contractors Nederland B.V. Saipem was assigned the contract for installation of the topsides. The contract for pipeline design has been awarded to IKM Ocean Design.

The Valemon field will have a fixed steel platform to separate gas, condensate (light oil) and water. The topsides will have facilities for partial processing and export of unstabilised condensate and rich gas.

"The platform and transport solution for Valemon forms a good basis for developing other oil and gas fields in the area," said Ivar Aasheim, senior vice president for Statoil's field development business cluster.

"Along with the ongoing Gudrun development, Valemon will contribute to a high activity level on the NCS in the coming years."

The Valemon field will be one of Statoil's largest development projects on the NCS in the time ahead. It contains about 206 million barrels of oil equivalent. The Valemon reservoir is complex since it is split up but also because of high pressure and temperature.

The gas from Valemon will be sent via the existing pipeline between Huldra and Heimdal, which is a hub for onward transport to the European gas markets. The condensate will be piped via Kvitebjørn for stabilization and sent on to the Mongstad refinery near Bergen. A submarine cable will supply Valemon with electricity from Kvitebjørn.

Maersk Selects Lloyd's Register for FPSO Contract

Maersk Selects Lloyd's Register for FPSO Contract

Monday, May 02, 2011
Lloyd's Register

Lloyd's Register EMEA has been awarded the global contract to provide Maersk FPSOs with a comprehensive suite of technical services to assure the reliable operation of its fleet of floating oil and gas production units which serves some of the world's biggest offshore fields.

The multi-year agreement will require the combined expertise of the energy and marine teams at Lloyd's Register to deliver a suite of technical services -- including integrity and inspection management, classification, verification and engineering support -- to help ensure safe and sustainable operations. There is an option to extend beyond the original contract period.

"This is a very important contract for Lloyd's Register, not least because it offers further evidence of our ability to deliver a wide portfolio of technical services to elite companies in the offshore industry," said Iain Light, Group Energy Director, Lloyd's Register. "We are among very few organizations supporting the offshore industry that has the required global reach and depth of knowledge to deliver such a comprehensive and consistent range of technical support across the world."

Lloyd's Register has an unrivalled marine heritage which it has merged with the offshore expertise of its energy division and bolstered with specialist expertise acquired through recent acquisitions to offer a unique technical-assurance package that covers people, plant and process, Light says.

"Maersk FPSOs are pleased to continue our relationship with Lloyd's Register for classification, verification and integrity management services," said David McLean, Maersk FPSOs' Chief Operating Officer. "Following a competitive tender, the decision to award the contract was made on financial, technical and strategic grounds with LR ideally suited to align themselves geographically to our requirements."

Lloyd's Register has committed more than GBP150 million in the past five fiscal years to acquire companies displaying technical leadership in their specialist fields, including: Scandpower AS, a leader in independent risk-management; ModuSpec BV, the leading provider of technical services to the offshore drilling sector; and Human Engineering Ltd, one of the world's top human factors consultancies.

The new agreement will require Lloyd's Register to assist and advise Maersk FPSOs on meeting the regulatory, health, safety and environmental commitments of its asset integrity-management program.

It also requires Lloyd's Register to proactively manage activities relating to the retention of class notations for Maersk FPSOs' fleet, to supply the surveyors to carry out Flag State surveys and to carry out in-service and design verification and examination activities as required by local legislation and/or Maersk in markets as distant as Australia, Brazil, Norway and the UK.

To ensure a seamless delivery of the complex long-term program, the core integrity team at Lloyd's Register will reside with Maersk FPSOs' operations team in Aberdeen.
