Semisub Ensco 8504 Sets Sail to Brunei

- Semisub Ensco 8504 Sets Sail to Brunei

Ensco has taken delivery of ENSCO 8504, the fifth of the seven ENSCO 8500 Series rigs constructed by Keppel FELS Limited in Singapore. After mobilizing to Brunei to complete deepwater sea trials and final outfitting, ENSCO 8504 will commence a previously announced drilling contract with Total E&P Deep Offshore Borneo B.V.

Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Dan Rabun commented, "We are very pleased that Total has chosen ENSCO 8504 for its drilling program. Our 8500 Series rigs have performed extremely well for our customers and we are realizing significant benefits from the uniform design and standardization across the entire series."

Mr. Rabun added, "Brunei is an emerging deepwater basin and we look forward to entering this market and expanding our relationship with Total."

The proprietary design of the ENSCO 8500 Series was developed with extensive input from customers to address the drilling requirements for virtually every deepwater field around the world. The design includes a 35,000' nominal rated drilling depth, two million pounds of hoisting capacity, 8,000 tons of variable deck load and an open layout well suited for subsea completion activities. Improved visibility from the open deck configuration also enhances safety.

The uniform design of the ENSCO 8500 Series streamlines operational functionality, repairs, training, spare part requirements and maintenance, while also providing flexibility for customer specific enhancements. In particular, the 8500 Series may be modified to drill and complete wells in water depths up to 10,000'.

Two additional ENSCO 8500 Series rigs are under construction with deliveries scheduled for the first and second half of next year. Ensco has the world's newest ultra-deepwater drilling fleet comprised of drillships and semisubmersibles that operate in multiple markets around the globe, including Brazil, West Africa, U.S. Gulf of Mexico, Mediterranean and Asia.

Novatek Tanker Sets Sail on Northern Sea Route

- Novatek Tanker Sets Sail on Northern Sea Route

OAO Novatek

Novatek has announced the inaugural voyage of a high-tonnage Panamax class tanker, which has navigated a new route north of the New Siberian Islands. On June 29, 2011, the tanker Perseverance set sail from the Russian port of Murmansk carrying a cargo of 60 thousand tons of Novatek's stable gas condensate destined for consumers in China. Icebreaking support for this voyage was provided by Russia's Atomflot, a government-owned shipping entity, and the tanker is now on course to its final destination.

Novatek is the first company to utilize the Northern Sea Route in the 2011 summer navigational period. Between June and October 2011, the Company plans to ship six or seven cargoes of stable gas condensate, produced by the Purovsky Gas Condensate Processing Plant, to markets in the Asian-Pacific region via the Northern Sea Route.

Transporting hydrocarbons through the Northern Sea Route is expected to reduce the costs and delivery time for shipments from Russia's northern ports to consumers in the Asian-Pacific region. The use of the Northern Sea Route provides new technical information and navigational experience for hydrocarbon transportation under Arctic conditions and is an integral part of Novatek's logistical strategy to develop prospective fields in the Yamal peninsula.

FPSO PSVM Set to Sail for BP Block Offshore Angola

FPSO PSVM Set to Sail for BP Block Offshore Angola

Monday, April 25, 2011
Sembcorp Marine

FPSO PSVM, one of the world's largest Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessels successfully converted by Sembcorp Marine's subsidiary Jurong Shipyard for contractor MODEC, is well-poised for its maiden assignment offshore Angola for owners BP Exploration (Angola) Limited and Block 31 partners.

Equipped with one of the biggest external turrets ever constructed in the oil industry and topside modules of over 20,000 tonnes, the FPSO PSVM is destined for the Plutão, Saturno, Vênus and Marte (PSVM) Development in Block 31 offshore Angola, the first ultra-deepwater development in West Africa. Designed for up to 20 years of deployment without drydocking, FPSO PSVM will be installed in water depth of 2,000m and is capable of processing 157,000 barrels of oil per day and 245 million cubic feet per day of production gas with a storage capacity of 1.8 million barrels of oil.

To commemorate the conversion success, FPSO PSVM was named by Lady Sponsor Mrs Ana Maria Martins, the wife of Eng. Gaspar Martins, Executive Director of Sonangol E.P, in a ceremony at Jurong Shipyard on Saturday, April 16, 2010 witnessed by key representatives and stakeholders.

Converted from a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) tanker Ex-Bourgogne, FPSO PSVM is the 19th conversion and upgrading by Jurong Shipyard for MODEC since the FPSO Nan Hai Sheng Li in 1995, and is a testament to the yard's offshore conversion expertise.

The conversion of FPSO PSVM involved installation of an external turret mooring system and process facilities, which include gas turbine generators, oil separation, gas injection/gas lift and water injection system.

High standards of quality, technical excellence as well as Health, Safety, Security and Environment were achieved by Jurong Shipyard, MODEC and BP for the project, which attained a commendable safety performance of 8.1 million manhours without lost-time incidents.
