Statoil has awarded Aker Solutions an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract for subsea compression topside modifications on the Asgard field.

The Åsgard license has decided on a concept involving gas compressors installed on the seabed, so-called subsea gas compression. The purpose of the modification is to supply electricity to the Åsgard subsea compressor units, which will be installed in 2013.

Åsgard is the first installation worldwide to employ subsea gas processing involving gas compression and this represents an important technological step change in the development of fields in deep and demanding waters and creates exciting opportunities for the industry.

"This modification work is important for the development of gas compression on subsea installations. Aker Solutions has earlier been awarded the contract for developing the full scale subsea compression system. We look forward to working together with them in more aspects of the Åsgard development," said vice president of project procurement in Statoil, Vidar Martin Birkeland.

Scope of work includes building and installing an 800 tonne new module and integration work on the Åsgard A and B platforms in the North Sea. Delivery is set for 4Q 2014. Estimated contract value is approximately NOK 650 million.

"This is an important measure to extend the producing life of the Åsgard A platform, which will in turn increase recovery from the existing field. Subsea gas compression is a technology approach which can boost recovery rates and lifetimes for several gas fields," said Astrid Jørgenvåg, vice president for Åsgard production in Development and Production Norway in Statoil.

The contracts for pipelines, marine operations and other major procurement items in connection with the Åsgard development will be awarded in the course of the year.

McDermott's subsidiary has been awarded full engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of a 750-ton compressor module for BG Trinidad & Tobago's Hibiscus field development offshore Trinidad. The contract is valued at more than US $50 million and will be included in McDermott's second-quarter 2011 bookings.

"We are pleased to be working for the BG Group again to deliver this full scope compressor module for the Hibiscus gas field, which will enable BG to increase gas supply to its Atlantic LNG trains," said Stephen M. Johnson, McDermott's Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. "Where we add value to this field development is by providing the full range of engineering and construction services and managing the project interfaces in house."

Detailed engineering design of the compression module will be carried out by McDermott's Houston-based engineering office along with procurement for the module equipment and some specialty items. McDermott's Morgan City fabrication facility will handle procurement of bulk items and construct the module on site in Louisiana.

Engineering commenced in the first quarter of 2011 and fabrication is due to begin by the first quarter of 2012 - with loadout and transportation scheduled for the first quarter of 2013.

McDermott's heavy lift vessel DB50 will set the compressor module at the installation site on the existing Hibiscus platform, in a water depth of 500 feet, before performing the compressor module tie-in, hook-up and commissioning on site. The field lies 28 miles off the north coast of Trinidad.

The Hibiscus field is part of BG T&T's North Coast Marine Area development to supply gas to trains 2, 3, and 4 of Atlantic LNG in Point Fortin, South Trinidad.

SBM Offshore has executed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with OSX 2 Leasing BV, an indirect subsidiary of OSX Brasil and part of the EBX Group. This LOI will permit SBM to start project activities, including early engineering and procurement up to $25MM, relating to the future conversion, supply and installation of a floating production, storage and offloading vessel to OSX (FPSO OSX-2). The full EPCI contract for FPSO OSX-2 is expected to be executed within a month.

FPSO OSX-2 will be chartered by OSX to its customer OGX Petróleo e Gás Ltda. (OGX), also a company of the EBX Group, and will be deployed on oil fields in the Campos basin offshore Brazil. First oil is targeted by 3Q 2013.
